First Step - Are you eligible and interested?                                                   

This step should be completed before you're 31 weeks pregnant

You will speak to the study coordinator to discuss eligibility and, if qualified, procedures. We will then speak to your partner to give them information about the procedures. These calls should take no more than 10 minutes.

First Lab Session

27-32 weeks pregnant

Couples eligible will schedule their lab session appointment; appointment times are anywhere from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday through Sunday. You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire that can be taken online or we can mail you a paper packet and is to be completed before your appointment time. The questionnaire can be completed in sections (doesn't have to be done all at once) and takes about an hour and 45 minutes. Then, you and your partner will attend a lab session at Memorial Hall (map on FAQ page) that will last about an hour and 45 minutes. *There is a reserved parking spot for your appointment. ​

 

Lab session will consist of 1) answering questionnaires 2) playing a computer game with your partner 3) engage in 2 video-recorded problem-solving discussions (8 minutes each) 4) engage in 2 video-recorded supportive discussions (8 minutes each), 5) we will take some pictures, 6) you will provide some saliva samples, and 7) you will provide a urine sample.

The total time between the questionnaire and the lab session will be about 3.5 hours.

Online Survey

4-6 weeks after the first lab session 

You will each complete an online questionnaire that will take no more than 45 minutes.

Compensation for this step is an Amazon gift card for $30.

Post-Birth Online Survey

After you’ve had your baby

We will send you a quick 10-minute online survey to complete after you’ve had your baby. We’d like to know your baby’s birth weight and a few details about your birth experience. 

Compensation for this step is an Amazon gift card for $10.

Diary

7-8 weeks after baby comes home

You will complete a 10-day "diary study" which means that you will answer short surveys every day for 10 days. We will email you and your partner a quick morning survey (mostly about how you slept) and a slightly longer evening survey about how your day went and how you’re feeling.

Each day of the diary is $5. Total possible compensation for this step is an Amazon gift card for $50.

Online Survey

About 3 months postpartum

You will each complete an online questionnaire that will take no more than 45 minutes.

Second Lab Session

About 6 months postpartum

You and your partner will come to the lab for a second lab session (almost identical to the first). It will last about an hour and a half. We’ll ask you to bring your baby with you.

Compensation for the Second Lab Session is an Amazon gift card for $150.

Final Online Survey

About 12 months postpartum 

You will fill out a 30-minute online questionnaire that will be emailed to you. 

Compensation for final online survey is an Amazon gift card for $40.
